Hi Magikquilter,

Thanks for your feedback! I did consider writing about the 'all rights reserved' or 'creative commons' thing as well but I had already spent so long on my post. That's good that you are considering using CC for your work. I have it on some of mine too but mostly I put 'all rights reserved'.

I think it's OK to be inspired by something or someone else but when your work is quite obviously very similar to theirs I don't think it's just an inspiration anymore.

Hi April,

There really isn't a 'right' or 'wrong' way to do it. What I wrote above is mostly just my own opinion and I think it depends on the owner of the photo(s). I think your solution would be perfectly fine for most cases (better than not referencing/linking at all) but for myself I would prefer something like 'supercamel on Flickr' or 'Flickr/supercamel'. Flickr (and other sites such as DeviantArt and Etsy) have unfortunately become a free-for-all for people who use other's people's images/photos for their own benefit. And there's nothing wrong with that except when their readers start assuming it's their own work.

Quick questions. Referencing from Flickr, is "Image from Flickr ok? Obviously not everyone uses their real name on Flickr. Or are you meant to do it another way?

very helpful and informative post. After almost 200 posts I am now considering creative commons for my work and photos as it gets my work out there.

I think all all fashion etc is influenced by others work anyway although I agree that what limits most people from copying exactly is the lack of skills or talent of the original

I actually have a group on flickr called artisans and inspiration ...where people show what inspired them to create ...sometimes it is the same as the original but often nothing like it...inspiration like beauty being in the eye of the beholder!
