As a lifelong Mac lover (well, since I started using them aged 12) I’m super excited about the new Apple Store (capital letters!) opening in Sydney on June 19. I’ve been following the news on and off for quite some time about this. The whole opening has been shrouded in mystery although the date has been finally confirmed, and the time is 5pm, on George St, at the corner of King St, directly opposite the Darrall Lea chocolate store (that has been there for 51 years).

The Sydney Morning Herald has the latest goss.

Facts

* It’ll be the 215th Apple Store, but the first in the Southern Hemisphere (and obviously the first for Australia)

* It’ll be one of the biggest stores (although not the biggest, that title goes to Boston) standing three storeys

* The floor is made of marble shipped in from Italy where Apple has its own quarry, and every piece had to be perfect and flawless

* There will be macs for anyone to use to check their email or browse the web

One of my first thoughts was that I was worried it wouldn’t do well and would close down (because the Australian market and population is so small and quite a lot of big companies haven’t done well here in the past..) but they had this to say:

“Moreover, in the seven years since Apple has been doing direct retailing, it has not had to shut down any of the stores because of under-performance. All the stores, Johnson says, are “positive financial contributors”.

Anyway, here are the pics I’ve found:
